Key steps to opening a King's Café

Resource Pack If you're interested in opening a King's Café we would love to hear from you and help you in any way we can; ask for a resource pack which contains a taster of some of the resources we have built up over the years.

The King's Café name, logo, and format are designed for multiple locations and independent local church teams but must be used with permission. Here are six steps we've found crucial:

Surround everything in prayer
  • Get a group together to pray and to plan
  • Get a group together who are keen to pray for you
  • Get a group together to pray in the school
Build and develop relationships
  • Develop and grow a good working relationship with the school, the teachers and particularly the head teacher
  • Develop and grow relationships at the school gate
  • Encourage Christian parents to get involved
  • Develop and grow friendships, fun and trust with the children in the school
Build a team of committed workers
  • A committed and dedicated group of workers is essential in creating a café environment on a monthly or weekly basis
  • Create teams for set-up, music, crafts, hospitality, publicity, and audio/video
Start small and start monthly
  • Begin with a small and simple sound system
  • Have fun coming up with ideas
  • Ask if everything you do is understandable and accessible
Publicise and spread the word
  • Distribute bookmarks, flyers or invites to every parent in the school
  • The best invitation is by word of mouth
Make the atmosphere relaxed, safe and welcoming
  • Give a warm welcome on the door
  • Play good music in the background
  • Serve the best coffee and doughnuts you can stretch too
  • Help parents and children around the table
