What happens at a King's Café? Here's an example: As children begin arriving they start with a craft activity, colouring in, sticking pictures, or doing a word search. These are placed with materials and the 'menu of the day' on the tables, set out in a cafe style where children and adults alike sit around them.
The opening welcome is around fifteen minutes in and introduces the theme. A song is then sung with the band leading from the front, followed by a DVD clip, drama, or short game which links the 'menu' with the previous week or month and illustrates the new theme.
Another song is sung and a reading is read, followed by the Talky Bit for ten to fifteen minutes and based on the theme and taken from a Bible passage. The children continue to finish off the craft activity throughout and the activity's relevance is explained.
A song follows and some prayers usually written by someone who came that day are prayed, proceeded by a final song. The last doughnuts are passed around and quickly finished off!
